Fire Emblem is one of the most influential games of all time. If it weren’t for this game, gamers will not have experienced turn-based, strategy RPG games.
In today’s article, we are going to talk about the Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon game for the Nintendo DS.
The Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon game for the Nintendo DS is a remake of the very first Fire Emblem. Basically, the game’s developers not only enhanced the storyline but they’ve also made a graphical overhaul of the game as well.
The story revolves around Marth and his pursuit to take back the Kingdom that is rightfully his. 100 years prior to Marth’s storyline, the game focuses on the continent of Archanea. The continent was invaded by a greedy empire called the “Dolhr Empire” which is led by a very powerful shadow dragon who goes by the name “Madeus”.
Madeus is very powerful and because of his immense ability to bring destruction, the citizens of Archanea lived in fear and despair. A princess that goes by the name “Anri” rose to the occasion and defeated Madeus by using a magic-imbued Falchion.
The continent enjoyed 100 years of peace until Madeus was once again resurrected by the Dohlr Empire. During this time, Cornelius, the current king of Altea and father of Marth set forth to defeat Madeus with the magical Falchion once again.
Marth was sent by his father towards a nearby island, Talys, in order to escape the kingdom and hone his abilities as a warrior. Cornelius was never heard of again. Because of this, Madeus and the Dohlr empire successfully invaded the kingdom of Altea and made it their own.
A few years after Cornelius’ disappearance, the princess of Talys named “Caeda” informed Marth of what happened. Marth vowed to return to his kingdom to reclaim what was rightfully his and he is bent on defeating Madeus for good.
As mentioned earlier, the Fire Emblem franchise was the first game to ever introduce the turn-based strategy game genre. This game employs that same mechanic, albeit with really rich enhancements.
There are 25 chapters that the player must face which should last you more than 30 hours of gameplay. There are up to 6 difficulties that the player can choose (from really easy, to the most intense and hardcore difficulty).
The Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon game for the Nintendo DS makes use of the portable gaming console’s two screens. The bottom screen shows the overall map while the top screen shows the unit information.
You can move throughout the map and you can attack in various ways. If you use a melee unit, that unit must be placed beside the enemy to attack it within range. If you use a ranged character, you can place them a few cells away from the enemy player. Use these mechanics to your advantage to win the game.
The Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon game for the Nintendo DS is also the first turn-based RPG game to employ online multiplayer play. This feature is wildly accepted because you can team up with 4 other players to finish campaign missions. You can talk via the included microphone that is built in the portable gaming console.
If you want an absolutely gorgeous and fun turn-based strategy game, then look no further than the Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon game for the Nintendo DS.
